Waterfall of the Week

Bad Branch Falls

Bad Branch Falls in far eastern Kentucky is located in a nature preserve. It is a waterfall that feels uniquely unlike Kentucky. It is very much like some of the waterfalls you would find in eastern Tennessee or especially western North Carolina. It comes off the mountain with big boulders, and it just reminds me of being in the Asheville, North Carolina area and waterfalling. It’s definitely worth the not too bad hike up to it. Just remember, you can’t bring your dog with you due to it being in the nature preserve.

It’s really beautiful in the springtime, as there is an abundance of wildflowers and the trees in the forest are very mossy and filled with ferns. They’re just big, old trees that make this a must visit, even worth a trip on its own. I would recommend you don’t need a downpour, but you definitely want to go in the rainy season or within a few days of a decent rain to see this waterfall at its full potential, with the curtain coming off the rock face.
