Waterfall of the Week

Mill Springs Falls

This week we’re going down to Wayne County to a little park and historical area called Mill Springs. There’s an old mill here that the park service still runs occasionally. If you have the chance to go on one of the weekends or Saturdays that they are running the mill, I would highly recommend visiting Mill Springs Falls at that time. The mill itself is quite a beautiful building, and seeing it in action grinding and making flour is worth an extended visit, while also visiting the springs that come out of the hillside above Lake Cumberland, learning about the Civil War battle that took place at Mill Springs, and discovering what the other buildings were used for during the war.

There are pathways to walk around and see the springs coming out of the hillside as well as the falls. Down at the actual lake you can really see the falls and get great pictures of the water spilling over the edge and tumbling down to the lake below.
